My goodness it’s been a while again! I would like to justify this by telling you about all of the great places I’ve been and all of the trotting that I’ve been doing. Unfortunately, this would just make a me a huge liar…and would probably not actually be all that great in the end as I have a rather crappy imagination. Booooo….
So what has been going on this week. Well, there has been some marathon training, we are officially in Week #1 right now. 🙂 I ran a whole 3 miles on Tuesday morning…
and another 5 today.
So far so good (thank god)!
Last weekend a friend of Dr. Samia and I came to visit from MN. Well, Dr. Mazar is actually from the lovely Garden State originally, but is working in MN now. Anyway, Dr. Mazar is probably the coolest uncle on the planet because he came for the weekend soley to attend his niece’s 3rd birthday party! While Dr. S and I would like to think he came to visit us, his wonderful graduate school friends, deep down I think we both know better. That didn’t stop us from having a fantastic, very non-marathon training, time…
Hoika and beer...
...and pie for breakfast...
...and 2/2 home made GRILLED pizzas for dinner.
On a healthier note (kind of…and I’m really not the best at making smooth transitions out of thin air…), GRANDPA TURNED 90 THIS WEEK!! I wish I had a photo of him to post for a proper birthday shout out, but somehow I do not x-( In short, grandpa has been a lumber-jack (cutting down trees well into his eighties because no one else can do it quite right), a professional wrestler (I’d tell you to Google-search “Michigan Slim” but this was bit before Google’s time), a hunter (never mind that he shot the end of his own finger off once after it wandered its way over the end of the gun barrel…I don’t know that I’m supposed to talk about this, so shhhhhh…), a mill-er and maybe a miner as well. Anyway, the moral of the story is that Gramps was/is pretty damn cool and Dr. Trot should be ashamed of herself for not having one damn incriminating picture to post for the big 9-0. I guess that also means Gramps was/is sufficiently stealthy…not half bad for 6’4″ and NINE decades 😀
And with that — Happy Birthday niece Mazar! HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRANDPA! And happy first week of marathon training!
DR. TROT IS EXCITED!
(And also just a wee bit crazed after her short fast run this morning…)
A proper birthday photo post will be assembled over the weekend for my parter in
bad decision making.
Dr. Trot is also excited about the arrival of her twin Dr. AnneBelle and for the weekend of working out, shopping, eating and partying that will ensue.
In the mean time, hope everyone had a delicious chocolate eating day yesterday! XOXO
It’s my little sister’s 26th birthday today! Welcome to your late 20s Anna!
As you do not read my blog (I know, I don’t understand how one could possibly stand to miss out on this opportunity either…) you do not know of my new birthday protocol…trolling my phone for photos of you on your birthday to post for everyone else’s maximum enjoyment. Lucky for you (unlucky for the rest of is) there are a minimum number of photos of you on my cell. There are a few however, and a few more tangentially related to you. Enjoy!
Our way of showing our love to the newly-weds
Dr. Trot's luxurious accomodations en route to Anna's wedding
Getting approval for the bridal shower supplies
The star studded guest list begins ti take form...
...and bouquets of shitloads of little tiny oragami flowers
Happy Birthday Anna!
My family friend Tess is also also celebrates a New Year’s Eve birthday. Unfortunately I have ZERO photos of Tess on my phone so this year we will have to go with only one visual aid — Tess’s delicious granola that got me through the trip back east…
Rest assured/paranoid that this will be made up for in 2014 however 🙂
Happy Birthday and New Year’s Eve!
So that is actually a bit of a lie. Ok, fine. It’s a complete and utter big fat lie. I most certainly did NOT figure it out, not even close.
To start things off, who remembers this—
THANK YOU ABEL!
If you do not, you can catch your uninformed self up to speed here
So while I
probably definitely shouldn’t admit this, I honest to god did the following-
- Publicly and privately and incorrectly thanked Dr. A for the absolutely beautiful scarf
- Collected the Christmas cards from my girlfriends to compare handwriting samples with the one on the sweet note that came with the beautiful scarf
- Wrangled up lab notebooks from previously graduated students in my office (whose Christmas cards to me must have been misplaced by the mail person) to compare handwriting to aforementioned note
Interrogated asked around with my friends to see if anyone knew anything about where this beautiful scarf could have come from
- Read the Facebook post from my cousin Elizabeth about how it looked Ethiopian and thought to myself Of course you’d say that Liz, you have two Ethiopian kidos. **headshake…and maybe an eye roll**
Fast forward 3 months to a night at the bar with some friends. One particular (…ahem…Ethiopian…ahem…) friend begins asking me very odd questions about if I have checked my mail box lately…just how long ago did I check it…am I still wearing scarfs…what is my favorite color… O.M.G. Only then did it finally hit me!
Abel, thank you for the beautiful scarf that you brought back for me from Ethiopia. (Liz 1, Dr. T 0) I love it. Also, HAPPY 25th BIRTHDAY ABEL! May others make you as happy as your make them 🙂
